“The holiday season is always a special time at Amazon and we’re excited to hire 250,000 additional people this year to help serve customers across the country,” said John Felton, Amazon’s Senior Vice President of Worldwide Operations. “Whether someone is looking for a short-term way to make extra money, or is hoping to take their first step toward a fulfilling and rewarding career at Amazon, there’s a role available for them.”

The positions available within Amazon's operations network encompass a wide array of responsibilities, including stowing, picking, packing, sorting, and shipping customer orders. These opportunities are dispersed across hundreds of cities and towns throughout the United States, and they can serve as a stepping stone to a lasting career, either within or outside the company.

One employee, Samantha Wolfe, shared her experience with Amazon. She initially applied for a seasonal role and was drawn to the company's culture and sense of community. Subsequently, she transitioned into a full-time position in operations and was accepted into Amazon's apprenticeship program. Today, she enjoys a career in marketing, illustrating Amazon's commitment to employee development.

In 2023, Amazon introduced various new benefits for its employees, including an emergency savings program and a financial assistance pilot program, which has cumulatively saved hourly employees nearly $20 million. These benefits are accessible right from the outset of employment. Furthermore, Amazon recently disclosed key insights from its 2023 Economic Impact Report provided by the third-party consultancy Keystone Strategy.

The report highlights Amazon's significant contributions to California's economy since 2010, which include:

  • A total investment of $142 billion in California, encompassing infrastructure development and employee compensation.

  • The creation of over 160,000 direct jobs within the state.

  • Support for an additional 311,000 indirect jobs in various sectors, such as construction and professional services.

  • A contribution of $135 billion to the state's GDP, in addition to the company's direct investments.

“We’re proud to see how our investments are able to unlock new economic opportunity for millions of people across the U.S.,” expressed Holly Sullivan, Vice President of Worldwide Economic Development at Amazon. “We’re providing jobs with competitive pay and great benefits, including free upskilling opportunities. We see every day how our investments have positive downstream effects for so many local economies, from big cities to small towns. Whether it’s at a fulfillment center, delivery station, corporate office, or retail store, every job created is an example of Amazon’s economic engine at work.”
